My work is fueled by both my desire to pursue a “Jack of All Trades” approach to life and my love for people and their passions. My interdisciplinary background and reverence for craftsmanship are embedded in each piece, shaping both my creative process and the final outcome. This approach is informed by a wide range of interests, including fairground organs and ocular prostheses- quintessential examples of obscure, cross-disciplinary art forms with rich histories that rely heavily on specialized skill and are often overlooked.

My passion for the arts was first cultivated through observing and pestering my artist father, as well as through my participation in the nonprofit Sunbonnet Sue Quilt Club, which I joined at age seven thanks to my grandmother’s advocacy. Surrounded by a diverse group of passionate older women, I developed a deep respect for the time, skill, and labour inherent in artistic practices. This early exposure instilled in me an appreciation for forms of craftsmanship that are frequently undervalued or unseen.

The vivid colors, themes, and motifs present in my work draw inspiration from my heritage and upbringing within a heavily mixed, predominantly Filipino-Colombian family, as well as from the cross-cultural influences I have gathered through extensive travel from a young age. I balance a serious, studied approach with a sense of whimsy, often borrowing from the ornate grandiosity of old-world fairgrounds and the imagery of the Folk Catholic environment in which I was raised.

My work functions both as a means of exploration- allowing me to learn and experiment with a variety of techniques- and as the resulting artwork itself. Rather than offering answers, it seeks to tell stories and invite viewers to look more closely at what is typically left unnoticed, whether that be detail, intent, or process.
